We have already seen some fruit from our first-ever prayer walk around city schools. Below is the scripted prayer written by our committee that we handed out to the teams. Obviously, the teams were also encouraged to pray as they felt led (see the last line of the prayer below).

GSAE Prayer Walk

The issue of “fatherlessness” arose in our Spokane City Advance event in January (see Spokane City Advance Meeting Notes). This prayer walk was a result of that meeting.

One Cry Prayer

Uniting in Prayer to Transform Spokane

Prayerwalking is taking our prayers to the places where we desire to see change through the power of God. As you pray on site today, ask God to give you specific insight in how to pray for each location.

God Almighty, we proclaim You as the Creator of the heavens and the earth. We enter into Your courts with thanksgiving and into Your gates with praise worshipping You with all our heart, mind, soul and strength. We lift up our praises to You that You may inhabit them.  We proclaim the song of Moses and the song of the Lamb, saying, “great and marvelous are Your works, O Lord God. Righteous and true are Your ways, You are King of the nations. Who will not fear, O Lord and glorify Your Name?  For You alone are holy, for all the nations will come and worship before You, for Your righteous acts have been revealed.” (Revelation 15:3-4).

Father God, we come to You in the Name of Jesus Christ and thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit that resides within, the Spirit that comforts, guides and protects us. We come together in unity representing the Church of Spokane to pray for our city. You have said, “If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (II Chronicles 7:14)

Today, we humble ourselves before you and repent of our own sins and the sins of our ancestors. We ask for Your forgiveness so that You might cleanse this land and its people. We pray that You would lift any veils so that we can discern any further sin and go even deeper into repentance for our land.  Father God, we pray “hallowed be Your Name, Your Kingdom come and Your will be done.” Cleanse us today through the blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ and protect us from danger and from enemies seen and unseen.

Father God, we join together as one church, the Church of Spokane and cry out for our city and call in the harvest. Let Spokane be a city of refuge and its people the people of God.  We pray this Father’s blessing over our city and over our children and families in this city by placing His Name on them: “The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you, the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

Father God, in the name of Jesus Christ and by the power and authority of His Blood, we break the power of the orphan spirit over our children and families and we release the Father’s spirit of adoption as our blessing over ________________________________________ (names of the elementary, junior high and high school we are praying for). We repent for the fatherlessness in our own home. We repent for where we have been silent and not stepped into our roles as protector, provider, leader and lover, and abdicated these responsibilities. Father, release a voice among Your men; lift the veils from our eyes. We thank You for what You are doing in Your house. Even now, You are calling up fathers to mentor, bless, love and guide those who have been abandoned. And we call in from the north and the south and the east and the west a fathering spirit; increase and multiply those who can pour into, guide, encourage and equip the young ones. Let there be a marriage of the generations and impartation of Your Kingdom here on earth. God, you are doing a new thing among our youth and we rejoice in this move. “And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.” (Malachi 4:6) Let us come alongside and support these callings.

Father, in the Name and the power and authority given to us by our Lord Jesus Christ, we bind the powers that are driven by pride, selfishness and control, the powers that divide and exclude, and we release in their place a blessing of unity, humility, obedience, inclusion and love. May Your Church work together to bring Your Kingdom and overcome the powers that were dethroned through Your death and resurrection. We release healing over this city. You gave Your life that we might be healthy and whole. So it is in this authority that we release healing. Where there is sickness, both physically and emotionally, we release Your power. We call in the lost and hurting.  Let there be a mighty increase in salvations. Lord, reveal Yourself to the children and/or youth in this school. Let Your love call the Church out from their walls into our communities and bring Your hope and love to a dying city. “Lord of the harvest, thrust laborers into your harvest field.” (Luke 10:2b) Father, heal our schools, heal our families, heal our city.

We come against all the powers that are seducing our children “to belong at any cost” (the seductions of drugs, sex, peer pressure, gangs, and dark promises). Send Your light, God, to open their eyes.  Let there be divine appointments as You break the strongholds of darkness, specifically rejection, abandonment, shame and hopelessness. Break up the gangs, dry up the drug sources, close the doors to immorality.  Release a spirit of purity, integrity, nobility and truth. Impart the Father’s love that truly satisfies these longings to belong, be understood and be loved. Let Your beauty, truth, and love be seen. Do it God.

God as we release this cry over our city, we ask that You would release Your Spirit of understanding, the anointing that builds community and unity, over the Church of Spokane. We thank You for showing us Your heart for the fatherless. We bless our city with healthy and whole families: husbands and wives working together, submitting to one another and functioning in their God given destinies. Thank You, God, for increasing our understanding of the beautiful covenant You have with us and may the beauty of that covenant live, as an example, in our marriages and families.

“The Lord has anointed us to bring good news to the afflicted. He has sent us to bind the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, freedom to the prisoners and to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.” (Isaiah 61:1-2) We praise You for Your goodness. We lift You on high as the only Holy and Righteous God. Hallowed be Your Name.

We also declare to our city and region, “Lift up your heads, O gates, and be lifted up, ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in! Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle. Lift up Your heads, O gates, and lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in! Who is the King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory. “(Ps. 24:7-10)

So Father we declare that what You have written in Your scrolls for Spokane (Your plans, Your purposes, Your destiny for our city) will be fulfilled as You desire. That every “i” is dotted and every “t” is crossed for what You have pre-ordained and that Your Church would rise up in their united call to bring heaven to earth.

Finally, listen to the Holy Spirit for additional insight in praying for this school as you walk around it.
