On September 3, 2014, the GSAE board of directors held our very first strategic planning meeting. (Many thanks to Peggy Paullin from Inspired Implementations in leading us through this process.) Our afternoon together brought a renewed sense of mission and purpose, and from that we now have an action plan! What a blessing it was to hear from the Lord on how He wants us to implement the vision He has given us of “supporting the Spokane area Body of Christ to make disciples in the Inland Northwest.”
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
~ Philippians 2:13
We highlighted many areas to work in to elevate the Good News in our community. Those details are now included as part of our strategic plan. However, four key projects stand out as central to our action strategy:
Outreach in our local schools: This is an area in which we have already begun to plan. The body of Christ in Spokane has been doing some amazing work reaching out to local grade schools. We believe that if we gather churches and ministry partners to discuss what each is doing, we can bring greater fruit from the sharing of vision and ideas. While we don’t know yet what this will look like, we have initiated a planning/discussion meeting at the end of September to focus on this issue.
Leadership training: We recognize our area has a few well-run leadership programs already. Whitworth University has a highly regarded leadership studies program as does Gonzaga University (the program at GU is a doctorate). However, we believe there is a need for an organization to train local Christian men and women about Biblical leadership within the context of our own community, at a price many folks can afford, and over months, not years. Watch for that planning to begin this fall.
Men’s ministry: Today it seems that many churches in our community don’t have a ministry for men. This is not a criticism; we understand the reality of “capacity”. The pastor can only do so much. Our mission here is to catalyze an area-wide ministry to men and for men that we can support. We’re looking at beginning the planning for this in fall/winter.
Engagement: We believe we are called to foster unity among the entire body of Christ. Our board is fully aware we can do a much better job reaching out and including the many communities and cultures in our area. This means including the Latino churches, the Slavic Churches, the African-American churches, and so many others, along with Deer Park, Cheney, and Post Falls. There is so much kingdom work to be done! We have every confidence that God will use the GSAE – and YOU – to do the work He desires in our communities.
Clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart. And we have such trust through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.
~ 2 Corinthians 3:3-5
You see, you are each epistles of Christ. So am I. The Holy Spirit made you an epistle through other believers as He has done with me. “As iron sharpens iron” God calls each of us to minister to each other and to help each other in ministry. We, like Paul’s letters, are each a testimony of God’s grace and goodness to our own “Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria” (Acts 1:8).
We are so excited about implementing our 2015 strategy. We are passionate about the vast opportunities to win Spokane for Christ! That said, we truly desire your prayers for our mission, and we need monthly financial support to get there.
Would you be willing to pray about what God would have you do to help us support churches and believers in our community?
